ITI's What If... presents sexual assault awareness programs at IU

Indiana University's Bloomington campus recently renewed ITI's contract to educate every incoming freshman about the dangers of sexual assault. In the summer of 2003, InterAction Theater presented 37 What If... performances to more than 6,000 incoming freshmen. This June and July, ITI will present 39 What If... performances. "Your phenomenal work last year is unimaginably important to our quest to make this program a permanent part of orientation," said Carol McCord, Assistant Dean of the IU Office of Women's Affairs. "I am very grateful and respectful of your work and can't wait for this year's!"

Company produces Beckett's Happy Days in Indianapolis

ITI presented Samuel Beckett's Happy Days for two performances at Indianapolis' Phoenix Theatre in April. "We recently re-wrote our mission to include the production of traditional theater that makes audiences question society and themselves," said Bill Simmons, ITI's executive director. "Who better than Beckett to make us do that?" ITI co-founder and Artistic Director Diane Kondrat starred as Winnie, Beckett's physically and emotionally trapped woman. Bloomington's Mike Price played Willie, Winnie's unhappy husband. Equity actor, director and Indiana University guest lecturer Martha Jacobs directed the production in Bloomington before it moved to Indianapolis. Indiana Arts Commission grant resources assisted in the production of Happy Days.

ITI's Diane Kondrat to pilot Shakespeare program in correctional facility

ITI Artistic Director Diane Kondrat and newly- appointed ITI board member Jack Harlow are working on a pilot program to use the Sanford Meisner Acting Technique and Shakespeare as educational tools at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in southern Indiana. As many as 15 inmates at the facility will participate in this pilot program that will teach inmates how to read Shakespeare's verse, bring it to life using a method acting approach, and gain insight into human psychology.
